Onyx A/M-24 Inflatable PFD — Auto/Manual, USCG-Approved Life Jacket
Product description
U.S. COAST GUARD APPROVED: This inflatable personal flotation device meets U.S. Coast Guard requirements and inflates automatically when immersed or by pulling the activation cord. An oral inflation tube serves as a secondary method to add air. The jacket is certified for wearers 16 years and older, weighing more than 80 pounds, and is sized to fit chest measurements from 30" to 52".
HIGHLY BUOYANT: When fully inflated the PFD provides approximately 22.5 pounds of flotation to help keep the wearer’s airway clear of the water. The inflatable bladder and foam support are designed to assist in turning and keeping the head up for added security while afloat.
MANUAL CONVERSION OPTION: The unit can be converted to manual-only mode for activities like paddling or fly-fishing where frequent wetting could trigger automatic inflation. Activation is as simple as pulling the inflation handle; a manual conversion cap is included so you can choose the preferred operating mode for your outing.
COMFORTABLE FIT: The vest includes an adjustable webbing waist belt with a front quick-release buckle and a soft neoprene neckline for chafe-free wear. A D-ring attachment provides a convenient tether point for small accessories or safety lines, and the low-profile construction improves range of motion compared with bulky foam PFDs.
REARMING KIT: This inflatable jacket is reusable after deployment provided it is rearmed correctly. Follow the Owner’s Manual for initial arming and post-inflation rearming procedures. Onyx rearming kit #1352 is recommended for servicing this model; having an extra kit on hand is advisable to practice rearming and ensure readiness.
INCLUDED CONTENTS & USE: The package contains the inflatable PFD with activation mechanism, oral inflation tube, manual conversion cap, and adjustable belt. It’s intended for everyday recreational boating, kayaking, fishing, and other on-water activities where a compact, comfortable flotation option is preferred.

A bit pricey but worth it
More expensive than basic vests, but the feel and fit justify it. Lightweight and comfortable all day.

Comforting on family outings
Gives me peace of mind when fishing since I’m not a strong swimmer. It’s far less cumbersome than traditional PFDs and offers good ventilation. If it fires, rearming is straightforward with the kit.

Cooler and more comfortable than full vests
Bought for kayak trips — much less hot and restrictive than foam vests. It’s USCG-approved, which was important to us. The pull cord sits close to the buckle, so be careful when putting it on. The pink color is fun and easy to spot.

Does the job
Lightweight and effective. I’m 5'2" and 190 lbs; it inflated when tested. Replace the cartridge with the rearm kit; get extras if you want spares.

Great for nervous swimmers — quick inflation
Tested in a pool to show my wife how it works. It inflated in under two seconds and kept her comfortably afloat. We’ll keep a rearm kit aboard.

Recommended by a frequent flyer
My husband, a pilot, uses these on flights over water. He finds them comfortable and suitable for his needs.

Lightweight with selectable inflation
I haven’t had to use it in an emergency, but pool testing videos convinced me. It’s unobtrusive for paddling, lets you switch off auto inflation for wet activities, and doesn’t limit motion. The manual is also straightforward.

Discreet and functional
Thin, light, and unobtrusive — ideal for kayaking. I haven’t had to use it in an emergency but hope it performs when needed.
