Product description

This SmartCode 260 keypad deadbolt converts a standard door into a keyless entry point. The package includes the exterior keypad assembly, interior thumbturn and housing, strike plate and mounting hardware, all necessary screws, and a printed installation guide. Batteries are not supplied; the lock runs on four AA alkaline cells. The lock is designed for standard residential doors — typically 1 3/8" to 1 3/4" thick with a 2 1/8" bore — and installs using only a screwdriver and the included instructions or optional BILT 3D interactive guidance.

Construction combines a durable metal lock body finished in matte black with antimicrobial Microban protection applied to the touch surface. The unit carries a Grade 2 BHMA certification for security, durability and finish, and incorporates Kwikset’s SmartKey re-key technology so you can re-key the cylinder to accept a KW1 key. The keypad supports up to 50 permanent user codes, 10 single-use codes, and a single programming code for management.

Operation is straightforward: enter a user code to unlock, use the interior thumbturn to secure from inside, or enable auto-lock to have the deadbolt relock automatically after a selectable interval (30 seconds to 10 minutes). Additional features include an intrusion alert that locks out the keypad and sounds an alarm after repeated incorrect attempts, and a Vacation Mode that disables the keypad for extended absences. The illuminated keypad and audible feedback make daily use simple and predictable.

    I’ve used Kwikset for years and this keypad has been reliable. AA batteries have lasted a year for me; I swap them annually to be safe. Finish and durability have held up well on two units. Programming was clear, though the guide could be a bit more detailed.

    Very convenient to get in without keys. The matte black looks modern. Setting up multiple codes for family members was easy and removing codes is straightforward. It beeps when operating and the battery has been fine so far.
