Sunday Brunch Series 13: Recipes, Tips & Weekend Favorites

img 35455 1Welcome to On Sundays We Brunch — Series Twelve! I hope this becomes a relaxed moment for us to chat as if we’re sitting together over brunch, sharing favorites: articles, recipes, products, books, and small inspirations.

Brunch is my favorite meal because the mood is light, the day is wide open afterward, and nearly any food fits the occasion—often accompanied by champagne. Urban Dictionary cheekily defines “brunchin’” as “midday lunchin’ acting a fool in the mid-morning to lunch time.” I can’t think of a more fitting description.

Pour a mimosa, pull up a chair, and let’s catch up. If anyone wants to act a fool, I’m totally game.

img 35455 2 scaledThere’s a shop in Des Moines with an entire table devoted to ranch dressing merchandise. Could anything be more Midwestern? I almost bought a ranch bib—because I seem to spill on myself at every meal and I love ranch—but it was sized for a small child, so I passed. Anyone else longing for spring? I’m ready to come out of hibernation, get outside, and especially visit the farmer’s market.

THE BEST THING I ATE ALL WEEK:

img 35455 9 scaledI tried a new sushi place this week and it lived up to expectations. I finally found a close approximation of my all-time favorite roll: shrimp tempura inside with seared filet mignon on top. It’s heavenly and it had been years since I last had it. This version was close enough to make the restaurant my new go-to sushi spot.

RECIPES I’M LOVING:

  • Port Wine Cheese Log
  • Vegan Fluffernutter Cookies
  • Spicy Korean Pork Belly Bao Bun
  • Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce
  • Brownie Oatmeal with Banana Ice Cream
  • Slow Cooker Honey-Chipotle Meatballs
  • Vegan Collard Green Wraps
  • Khachapuri (Georgian Cheese Bread)
  • Strawberry Rhubarb Streusel Shortcake
  • Garlic Beef and Broccoli Noodles

WHAT’S COMING NEXT WEEK:

Next week I’ll share a Guinness beef stew in time for St. Patrick’s Day, beer bread, one more squash dish before spring truly arrives, a mushroom croque monsieur, and my favorite monster cookies. I’ll also finally recap my trip to Provence. Join me next Sunday for another edition of On Sundays We Brunch.
