Make It Special: Homemade Granola and Breakfast in Bed Ideas

Everyone wants to feel special. We carry inside us a sense of being unique and irreplaceable. It’s more than a feeling: we are special. Each of us is a singular blend of physical traits, desires, fears, dreams, certainties and doubts, plus the experience of joys and setbacks that shape who we are. It’s easy to forget this, yet it’s always there. Treat yourself with daily kindness, understanding and a touch of good-humored self-awareness—you deserve it.

There’s something even more powerful: being special to someone else. That warmth starts low in the body and spreads into an irrepressible smile. Being special for another person is often revealed through small, caring gestures that might look like routine but, in the moment, make you feel cherished.

Think of the times someone met you at the train station or airport not with a grand bouquet but with a paper bag containing your favorite brioche and a beaming smile—you felt special. When your favorite song starts at the exact right moment, you feel special. A simple breakfast in bed on a Sunday morning—suddenly you feel special. A look that says more than words—that too can make you feel unique. Most of us have had that little thrill at least once: a lovely reminder that we matter.

Breakfast in bed is the perfect example of how to feel loved and appreciated, even on an ordinary day. You don’t need someone else to bring the tray for you to savor that feeling: you can celebrate yourself. Choosing to start a normal morning with a small act of sweetness and attention can change the whole day.

A Sunday-style breakfast in bed can make any morning feel special. Picture a creamy yogurt made with 100% Tuscan milk and a generous sprinkle of homemade granola: crunchy oats glazed with honey, studded with nuts, dried strawberries and coconut flakes. Take five extra minutes—the world will wait—and enjoy the contrast between smooth yogurt and crisp granola. The coconut brings a hint of holiday ease, as if you were wrapped in white linen sheets overlooking a blue Mediterranean sea.
