Behind the Scenes of My Ellen DeGeneres Show Interview

Apologies for the quiet stretch here — it’s been an unusually hectic week.

Earlier this month I received an email that turned my schedule and my expectations upside down: a writer from The Ellen DeGeneres Show reached out to ask if I would like to appear on their “15 Minutes of Fame” segment.

I was stunned. After staring at that message for several minutes, I still questioned whether it was real. Even now, after the event has come and gone, it feels a little surreal.

The next steps came quickly. I flew to California on Wednesday night, and early the following morning someone picked me up and drove me to Warner Bros. Studio. I was greeted by a lovely staff member named Sandy, who gave me a brief tour before the taping. Walking through the studio, still processing what was happening, I tried to stay calm, but my heart was racing.

When Sandy introduced me to Ellen, my nerves took over and I hardly remember my own words. The segment itself was filmed in front of a live audience. We spoke about this blog, about chocolate and vegan recipes, and about Ellen’s favorite dessert. I’m going to leave that as a teaser for now — you’ll have to watch the show to find out what it is.

After the interview, I was escorted backstage. To my surprise, Justin Timberlake was there as well, preparing for his portion of the show. I could hardly believe it; the moment felt both thrilling and overwhelming. I was so starstruck that I’m sure my reactions were less composed than I intended, but he was gracious enough to pose for a quick photo.

For those who don’t always check dates on posts, or who might be skeptical because of how polished that photo looks, I understand the urge to pause and wonder what’s real. The entire day felt like a whirlwind: incredible, fast-moving, and a little hard to believe even while it was happening.

Beyond the excitement of the studio visit and the interview, the experience reminded me how unexpected opportunities can arrive and change an ordinary week into something memorable. The team at the show was professional and warm, which helped calm my nerves and made the visit enjoyable. I was glad to have the chance to talk about things I care about — food, mindful eating, and plant-based recipes — on a platform that reaches so many people.

That said, being part of a major studio production is a learning experience in itself. The pacing, the staging, and the attention to detail that the production team brings to every segment are impressive. It was interesting to see the behind-the-scenes coordination needed to pull off a short on-air moment: hair, wardrobe, lighting, and timing all come together seamlessly when executed by experienced professionals.

For readers who follow this blog for recipe ideas, I promise to get back to sharing new content soon. There are several recipes and seasonal treats I’ve been testing and I’m excited to get them posted. In the meantime, I appreciate your patience and your continued support — it means a lot to me when you visit, comment, and try the recipes I write about.
