How to Layer a Drink Successfully

Layering cocktails comes down to two key points:

  1. Begin with the heaviest or sweetest liquid in the glass so it forms the bottom layer.
  2. Use a drink-layering tool for best results. The upside-down spoon method works, but a proper layering tool makes the process faster and more reliable.

2. Add vanilla syrup and one drop of blue food coloring to the blueberries. Stir gently to combine, then pour this mixture into your serving glass so it forms the bottom layer.

3. Place a layering tool or upside-down spoon in the glass so the next liquid can be poured slowly and evenly onto the blueberry layer.

4. Slowly pour chilled sparkling lemonade over the layering tool and allow it a few seconds to settle on top of the blueberry mixture, creating a clear separation between layers.

5. Remove the layering tool and add one lemon slice into the glass for a visual anchor between layers.

6. In a separate small pitcher, mix vodka with a splash of lemonade and a drop of yellow food coloring. Stir to tint the vodka slightly, then carefully pour this mixture over the lemon slice so it settles as the top layer.

7. Garnish the drink with extra lemon slices and a few blueberries. Serve immediately and enjoy the layered effect.

Tip: To maintain distinct layers, pour each liquid slowly and use chilled ingredients.
