36-Inch Stainless Steel Soil Probe with T-Handle — Heavy-Duty Sampler
Product description
Purpose-built for collecting undisturbed soil cores, this probe yields clean, uniform samples for laboratory analysis, soil mapping, and routine nutrient checks. It is intended to provide consistent results for planting decisions and amendment planning.
The kit includes a 36-inch tubular probe with a T-handle and an extractor/removal tool. The probe is constructed from high-grade stainless steel to resist rust and stand up to repeated field use. The handle gives extra leverage when pushing or twisting the shaft into the ground.
At 36 inches long, the rod reaches well below surface roots to sample deeper layers commonly used in agricultural and turf testing. The tip is tapered for easier insertion in typical garden and yard soils.
A separate extraction tool is supplied to dislodge roots, gravel, and debris and to push the collected core out of the sampler without having to use bare hands. This makes both sampling and cleaning faster and more sanitary.
The probe is suitable for hobby gardeners, landscape professionals, and farm managers who need reliable cores for lab submission or on-site evaluation. It works best when soil is not overly compacted or filled with large stones.
Pros
- Durable stainless-steel construction
- Long 36-inch shaft reaches deeper layers
- Includes extractor for easy sample removal
Cons
- Can struggle in very rocky ground
- May require pre-wetting in hard clay
- Heavier than lightweight plastic tools
VerdictThis 36-inch stainless steel soil sampler delivers dependable, consistent cores for nutrient analysis and site assessment. The long shaft accesses deeper horizons, the T-handle gives leverage, and the included extractor tool speeds sample removal and cleanup. It performs well in loam and moderately compacted soils, though very rocky or cemented ground can slow progress or trap cores. Overall a sol

Good for lab samples, needs prep in clay
I used this to take plugs for lab nutrient tests. It went in easily once I moistened dry clay and applied steady pressure. The metal foot ledge helps drive it down. It held up well under force, but removing compacted cores can be fiddly even with the extractor.

Collected sample for tree testing
Used it to pull a sample under a suspect tree canopy. It made taking a test sample quick and straightforward.

Eases penetration in firm soil
The tapered tip made pushing into compact ground much simpler. It pulled clean cores up to about six inches and the T-grip is roomy for big hands. A good buy whether you're a beginner or groundskeeper.
