Yamaha HS7 2-Way Powered Studio Monitor (6.5" Woofer, Black)
Product description
This is a two-way active studio monitor designed for nearfield monitoring, mixing, and critical listening. Each cabinet houses a 6.5" cone low-frequency driver paired with a 1" dome tweeter to cover a wide, linear band from 43Hz up to 30kHz. The internal electronics use a bi-amplified design with 60 watts dedicated to the woofer and 35 watts to the tweeter, yielding 95 watts of amplification per speaker for controlled dynamics and headroom.
Controls on the rear panel include ROOM CONTROL to compensate for boundary bass buildup and a HIGH TRIM switch to tame or accentuate upper frequencies depending on your room and taste. Connectivity is professional-grade with balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS phone jack inputs for direct connection to audio interfaces, mixers, and outboard gear.
The package typically ships with the monitor, a power cord and the speaker-link cable needed for stereo setups; some shipments may include a short auxiliary 3.5mm-to-RCA lead for convenience. The enclosure is built to be sturdy and aimed at nearfield placement — these monitors perform best a few feet from the listener and are commonly paired with a subwoofer if deeper extension is required. Each speaker weighs around 3.5 kg, making them stable but still manageable for desktop or stand mounting.
Pros
- Accurate, revealing mid and high response
- Adjustable ROOM CONTROL and HIGH TRIM
- Balanced XLR and TRS inputs for pro use
Cons
- Limited deep bass without a subwoofer
- Rear I/O and power concentrated on one side
- Fixed power connector may restrict cable options
VerdictA reliable nearfield reference monitor that delivers honest, detailed sound for home and project studios. The HS7’s 6.5" woofer and 1" dome tweeter, driven by a 60W/35W bi-amp (95W total), provide a flat response across 43Hz–30kHz so mixes translate well. Onboard ROOM CONTROL and HIGH TRIM let you tailor the speaker to untreated rooms, and the balanced XLR/TRS jacks make integration with interface

Better than expected
Moved these into my main music room and shifted smaller monitors to my office. The HS7s offer wide range and faithful reproduction for both music and sound work.

Classic Yamaha reliability
Excellent build and performance. Previously had NS10s; these deliver comparable usefulness for monitoring, in my opinion.

Beautifully detailed for my home studio
Not a pro, but building a serious den studio and these are ideal. I use them for recording and mixing — they reveal everything I'm playing and the amp tone. They get very loud if needed, and the room controls help tailor the response. Overall very pleased.

Compact speakers with great clarity
Used as desktop listening monitors via my audio interface. I chose these over deeper-sounding alternatives because I run a sub for low end. The mid/high presence is strong and the build feels sturdy.

They sound great
These small monitors deliver impressive sound. I haven't put them through studio sessions yet, but they should perform well.

Clear sound but a few practical issues
Pros: clean, satisfying sound and decent build. Included are a short 3.5mm-to-RCA lead and a roughly 2m speaker-link cable; only one speaker needs the mains. Cons: all main connectors are on the left side with no simple way to flip orientation, each speaker is fairly heavy (~3.5 kg), and the power lead is fixed.

Very pleased, minor delivery hiccup
Not a professional, but I noticed details I hadn't heard before. Only downside was one speaker arriving a few days later than the other.

Extremely impressive for the price
I own large reference floorstanders and compared to them these are remarkably clean given the lower cost. They won't match big towers for bass or max SPL, but in a bedroom or nearfield setup they deliver pristine mids and highs. Initially a little bright, but they settled in and sound balanced now.
