Yamaha HS4 Powered Studio Monitor Pair — Compact Reference Speakers
Product description
Packaging: Sold as a matched pair ready for immediate setup.
These are two-way, bass-reflex powered monitors featuring a 4.5-inch cone woofer and a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter. Frequency response is specified down to 60 Hz up to 22 kHz (-10 dB). Each speaker provides powered amplification (26 W nominal output per unit) with dedicated voicing controls: a room compensation switch and a high-trim control to tailor high-frequency response to your environment.
Rear-panel connectivity includes a combined XLR/TRS phone jack (COMBO) for balanced signals, RCA inputs for consumer devices, and a stereo mini (3.5mm) jack. The package includes a stereo mini-to-RCA lead, a speaker interconnect cable, and non-slip pads to keep the monitors secure on a desk or stand.
Designed for nearfield monitoring in compact studios and workspaces, the HS4s are intended to sit close to the listener and deliver neutral, revealing playback for mixing, tracking, and post-production. Their compact dimensions and solid construction make them an easy fit where space and volume are limited but accurate monitoring remains essential.

- Clear, uncolored mid and high response
- Multiple input options for flexible hookups
- Compact size ideal for small rooms

VerdictThe HS4 pair delivers honest, uncolored monitoring in a space-saving enclosure. They reproduce mid and high detail with clarity and enough low end for nearfield work when paired with a sub for extended bass. With room-control switches and a straightforward input panel, they’re ideal for bedroom studios, video editors, and anyone who needs reliable reference speakers without a large footprint. They

Works great so far
I like to listen loudly while I work and these exceeded what I expected for the space. Solid performer.

Excellent fidelity for smaller spaces
I moved my larger HS7s to my main room and put smaller HS units in the office. These give plenty of range and accurate reproduction for the work I do.

Precise playback for monitoring
Mounted on the wall in my small studio, they provide accurate playback and good clarity for mix decisions.

Classic Yamaha build and tone
Quality product as expected from Yamaha. I used to own NS10s; these deliver comparable usefulness for monitoring in my opinion.

Fantastic clarity for a home studio
Not a pro, just building a den studio, and these are exactly what I needed. I use them for tracking and mixing — they reveal everything, good and bad, and let me hear the true tone of my amp. Loud enough if you need headroom, and the room settings help tame reflections. Very pleased with them.

Small cabinets, big clarity
Excellent sound from a compact pair. I use them as my main desktop speakers through a UMC interface with a sub handling bass. The mids and highs are strong and the build feels solid.

As advertised — great tone
They sound very good. I haven’t used them professionally yet, but I’m confident they’ll perform well in the studio.

Love the sound in my treated room
Yamaha delivers again. In a ~290 sq ft treated space these perform wonderfully. Sound quality is top notch and great value.

Clean sound but a few practical issues
Pros: very clear sound, solid build, includes a 3.5mm-to-RCA cable (~1.5 m) and a two-meter speaker link. Only one side needs the mains power. Cons: most connectors are on one speaker so orientation can be awkward, each speaker is fairly heavy (~3.5 kg), and the mains lead is fixed and non-removable.

Very revealing — nearly perfect
I’m not a pro, but I hear details I missed before. Only downside was that the second speaker arrived a few days after the first.

Impressive detail compared to larger speakers
I reference mixes against my Bowers & Wilkins towers, and these hold up way beyond their size and price. They don’t produce the same chest-thumping low end, but in a bedroom or close-field setup they sound pristine. Initially a touch bright, but they settled in and sound balanced now.
