This quick and easy Maltesers rocky road slice combines crunchy Maltesers, smooth milk chocolate, salty pretzels, roasted almonds and pillowy marshmallows for a crowd-pleasing no-bake treat. Ready in minutes and simple to prepare, this slice is perfect for parties, bake sales, snacks or homemade gifts.

Maltesers are light, crunchy malt balls coated in milk chocolate, with malted barley giving that distinctive malt flavour. When combined with chopped malt biscuits, roasted nuts and salty pretzels, they create a layered texture and flavour profile that balances sweet and salty perfectly. This recipe uses straightforward pantry ingredients and only requires melting chocolate and mixing — no oven needed.

Tips and tricks for making rocky road
- Line the tray or tin with baking paper or aluminium foil, leaving an overhang to easily lift the set slice from the tin.
- Break up the dry ingredients (malt biscuits and pretzels) into bite-sized pieces and mix them together before adding the chocolate so the distribution is even.
- Work quickly once the chocolate is melted. Stir it into the dry mix and spread it in the tin before it starts to set.
- Experiment with variations: swap milk chocolate for dark or white chocolate, try flavoured Maltesers, or use different nuts such as peanuts, walnuts or pecans.
- For a nut-free alternative, omit the almonds or substitute them with extra pretzels or seeds.
- If you prefer a firmer, biscuit-only treat, omit the marshmallows to make an easy Malteser tiffin.
Ingredients

Milk chocolate: the melted chocolate binds the rocky road together. You can substitute dark or white chocolate if you prefer.
Maltesers: the star ingredient — add some into the mix and save a handful to press on top for a decorative finish. If Maltesers are unavailable, similar malted chocolate balls such as Whoppers can work.
Malt biscuits: these add extra malt flavour and crunch. If malt biscuits are not available, use any sweet biscuit like Digestives or Maria biscuits.
Marshmallows: medium-size marshmallows give a good chocolate-to-marshmallow ratio; you can use white, pink or a mix.
Roasted almonds: add flavour and crunch. Use other nuts if preferred, or omit for nut-free rocky road.
Salted pretzels: the salty crunch of pretzels balances the sweetness of the chocolate and marshmallows.
How to make Maltesers rocky road
See the recipe card below for exact amounts and full instructions.
1. Line a baking or slice tray with foil or baking paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal later.
2. Roughly break up the malt biscuits and pretzels into bite-sized pieces. Place the broken biscuits, broken pretzels, marshmallows, roasted almonds and around two-thirds of the Maltesers into a large bowl and mix to combine.

3. Chop the milk chocolate into even pieces and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt the chocolate in 30-second bursts, stirring between each burst until completely smooth. Alternatively, melt over a bain-marie on the stove.
4. Working quickly, pour the melted chocolate over the dry ingredient mixture and stir until everything is evenly coated in chocolate. Transfer the mixture to the prepared tray and press down firmly to compact it.
5. Scatter the remaining Maltesers on top and press gently so they set slightly into the surface. Allow the slice to cool and set in a cool place. To speed up setting, chill in the fridge for about an hour (or up to two hours on a hot day).

6. When fully set, lift the rocky road from the tray using the foil overhang and slice into portions with a large sharp knife.
How to serve

Serve slices on a plate for sharing, or package individual portions in clear cellophane bags with a ribbon to give as gifts. The Maltesers on top make an attractive presentation.
How to store
Store the rocky road in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a month. Biscuits may soften over time, but in most homes this slice won’t last longer than a few days. In very warm weather you can refrigerate the slice to keep it firm, though chocolate may sometimes develop a slight bloom (a harmless white film). Freezing is not recommended as the Maltesers can become sticky when thawed.
