Cucumber Lime Basil Prosecco Spritzer — Refreshing Summer Cocktail Recipe

Can you believe I’ve had this blog for nearly six years and never posted an alcoholic recipe? Time to fix that with a refreshing, summery Cucumber Lime Basil Prosecco Spritzer.

I’m still partnering with Carnival this year, and for this month’s post I wanted a drink that reminded me of our cruise. I chose bright, summery ingredients: lime for its sunny tartness, cucumber for its cool, crisp note, and basil for a fragrant herbal lift. Combined with bubbly Prosecco, it becomes a light, easy cocktail perfect for warm weather.

Prosecco is my favorite base for a summer drink: cold, effervescent, and not overly sweet. Unlike heavy blended cocktails, Prosecco preserves a clean, refreshing finish. I enjoyed a glass most evenings on our cruise, and it inspired this spritzer.

At first, Matt was skeptical about pairing Prosecco with lime, but the combination is bright and delightful. The tartness of the lime plays nicely with the bubbles, while cucumber and basil add a cooling, aromatic quality.

The recipe is simple and requires no special equipment. Step 1: buy a bottle of Prosecco. Step 2: make a cucumber-and-basil-infused lime juice. Step 3: mix and enjoy.

To prepare the infused lime juice, squeeze juice from four limes into a glass, add a few cucumber slices and several basil leaves, stir, and refrigerate for a few hours until chilled and infused.

When it’s time to serve, strain the infused lime juice to separate it from the cucumber slices and basil leaves. Divide the juice evenly among champagne flutes—this recipe yields about four servings, with roughly 1/2 ounce of infused lime juice per glass. Add a few fresh cucumber slices to each glass if you like.

You can add an extra basil leaf as a garnish, or skip it—either way the drink is lovely.

Top each glass with Prosecco until nearly full, garnish with a lime slice if desired, and serve immediately.

My official taste-testers—Matt and my mom—gave this spritzer two thumbs up. The cucumber arrives first, basil follows with a subtle herbal note, and the tart lime and Prosecco fizz finish it off. Whether you’re sipping with an ocean view or on the porch at home, it’s a crisp, easy-to-make cocktail. Cheers!
