Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Oatbran with Nuts & Dried Fruit Bowl

I want to share my recent obsession: oat bran. Though I’ve been enjoying it for about six months, it feels like a discovery that changed my breakfasts completely.
I eat it almost every morning—five to six times a week. It’s become my quick, five-minute go-to breakfast. Surprisingly, I haven’t grown tired of it, and I don’t expect to.
Compared to traditional rolled oats, oat bran has a different texture and more flavor when prepared right. I stumbled on it while following a meal plan to lose some stubborn weight. The plan suggested cooking oat bran with plain water and no sugar, which I found too bland. So I adapted it to suit my taste.
I add cinnamon for warmth, nuts for crunch, dried fruits for natural sweetness, and a few chocolate chips for a touch of indulgence. A teaspoon or two of chocolate feels like a small treat, and for me this makes breakfast feel like dessert—without the guilt.

Nutritionally, oat bran offers several benefits compared with regular oatmeal: higher fiber, fewer calories, and a good array of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Its fiber helps you feel full sooner and stay satisfied longer, which is useful for busy mornings and reducing snacking between meals. I also noticed that starting the day with a slightly sweet breakfast helps curb afternoon cravings, making it easier to stay on track.

Oat bran has a pleasant, slightly chewy texture even after cooking and doesn’t become as gluey as regular oats. It could also work well in savory applications like soups and stews, which I plan to try soon. If you prefer more sweetness, add a drizzle of honey, maple syrup, or date syrup. The recipe below is a guideline—feel free to tweak ingredients and amounts to suit your taste. You can even make a savory version; if you do, I’d love to hear how it turns out.

Cinnamon Oat Bran with Fruits, Nuts and Chocolate Chips

1 cup soya milk (or any dairy or nut milk)
1/4 cup oat bran
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1–2 tsp chocolate chips
Raisins or dried cranberries
Sliced almonds and pistachios for garnish

Place the milk, oat bran, salt, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally and bring to a gentle boil.
Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 2–3 minutes. Add raisins and simmer for another minute.
Remove from heat, stir in the chocolate chips and about 2 teaspoons of chopped or sliced nuts.
Serve warm, garnished with dried cranberries and the remaining nuts.
