This simple air fryer broccoli has been a favorite with my kids for years. Because they love it so much, I keep the preparation straightforward (see a few flavor variations at the end). I’ve tried steamed, raw, and boiled broccoli with pasta, but the air-fried version is the one they consistently ask for—my little one even prefers hers a touch charred.
Aside from raw vegetables, this is one of the quickest and easiest side dishes to prepare. I usually buy pre-washed broccoli florets in a bag. When time allows, I trim larger florets into smaller pieces and store them in a produce storage container so they stay fresh longer, but sometimes I leave them in the original bag until dinner. To prepare, pour the florets into a large bowl, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, and toss to coat. I like to taste a small floret and adjust oil and salt as needed.

Transfer the seasoned broccoli to the air fryer basket, leaving about 1″ of space at the top for airflow. Depending on your air fryer and the amount of broccoli, total cook time ranges from about 10 to 12 minutes. I usually check at the 6-minute mark to shake the basket, then continue cooking until the edges are browned and slightly crispy.
Ideas for extra flavors
This air fryer broccoli is very adaptable. Try one of these finishing touches to change the flavor profile:
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the broccoli right after it comes out of the air fryer
- Grate Parmesan or a hard mozzarella over hot broccoli so it melts slightly
- Add a light sprinkle of garlic powder when seasoning
- Mix in nutritional yeast for a savory, cheesy flavor
- Finish with red pepper flakes for a bit of heat
You can also use the same method for other vegetables—roasted cauliflower with olive oil and salt is an equally easy side.
