Daiwa CN-901HP Cross-Needle SWR & Power Meter — Bench HF/VHF
Product description
The CN-901HP is a bench-style SWR and power meter intended for amateur radio operators and technicians who need clear, immediate feedback on transmitter output and antenna match. It reports both forward and reflected power so standing wave ratio can be determined visually at the point where the two needles intersect.
This instrument supports operations across HF and into VHF bands, making it useful for multi-band stations. A large cross-needle analog meter displays forward and reflected readings simultaneously; SWR is read where those needles cross, which simplifies tuning compared with single-needle instruments. Multiple selectable power ranges let you measure low, medium, and higher output levels, allowing use with handhelds, base transceivers, and many amplified setups.
Built into a sturdy metal enclosure, the meter is fitted with industry-standard SO-239 coaxial connectors for straightforward integration into existing feedlines. The bench format holds the unit stable during adjustments and keeps the meter face easily visible while you tune or test equipment. The package includes the CN-901HP bench meter and the manufacturer’s documentation to help with setup and operation.
Typical uses include antenna installation checks, transmitter output verification, SWR tuning, routine station maintenance, and troubleshooting on the workbench or in club and field environments. Its analog cross-needle display is particularly helpful for real-time adjustments and educational demonstrations where visual feedback is valuable.
Pros
- Simultaneous forward and reflected power display for immediate SWR reading
- Selectable power ranges for low to moderate output measurements
- Durable metal housing with standard SO-239 connectors for easy hookup
Cons
- Analog readout lacks numerical precision of digital meters
- Some users report occasional units with defects
- Not a substitute for lab-grade RF test gear for advanced measurements
VerdictThe CN-901HP is a straightforward, analog bench instrument that gives clear visual feedback on both forward and reflected RF power, letting operators determine SWR at a glance where the needles cross. It covers a wide span of HF and VHF frequencies and offers multiple power ranges so it can handle low-power rigs up through modest amplified setups. The metal chassis and SO-239 fittings make it easy

Initreb1 5/5
Good accuracy and useful layout
Nice bright meter. Shows peak and average values. Forward and reflected power are shown together — a convenient setup.

SpaceSkier 5/5
Clear display, includes PEP reading
Performs reliably and is easy to read. The PEP/peak indication is handy during SSB operation.

Faulty unit — returned
After a week the reflected-power needle never moved on SSB, so SWR could not be checked. I tried multiple fixes and got no results, then returned it. Won't risk this brand again.

Simple to operate
Arrived quickly and was straightforward to set up.
